The International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg is a newcomer-festival for the creative international author’s film with an artistic claim. The International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg presents in the International Competition premieres of fiction feature films from all over the world, produced by directors who - on an international scale - are basically unknown (“newcomers“).
We exclusively present films by newcomer directors – considered by us as very well done – because we love international Arthouse cinema which takes itself seriously as well as its audience.
We search systematically through the annual world production of new Arthouse directors without copying the programme of other festivals.
We deliberately present only a small but strong selection of about 50 films – instead of screening 200 or 300 films – so that none of them will be overseen.
The International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg is in competition with other festivals, that means that if a film has or will be screened publicly in German cinemas, on any festival in Germany or broadcast on German television before October 2015, it cannot participate in the International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg anymore (exception: Special Screening or Special Section).
Also, we do not screen films which participated in Cannes, Venice (competition), Locarno (competition) or Berlin. This is very important to ensure the attention of buyers and professional guests which will attend the festival.
The minimum length of submitted films is 70 minutes.
In addition, they must have been completed during the 18 months preceding the Festival.
All non-English language films must be subtitled in English or German.
This is just an excerpt of the regulations, carefully read the complete regulations before submitting.
