The festival only accepts films from artists or those with an arts background..

There is no prescriptive theme and any visual material submitted can run for no longer than 10 minutes.

Submitted films can be presented in German, French or English, or with subtitles in any of those languages.

Selected films are required to provide English subtitles for screening at the festival.

No animation films will be accepted.

Dependant upon the length of films received, a maximum of twenty-five can be taken into the official program of the festival. Five of them will be nominated and admitted to the competition for the Gstaad Film Award. This award is to be The Golden Cow of Gstaad.

In 2015 there will also be a NEW PRIZE awarded to an emerging artist/filmmaker under the age of twenty five; The Golden Calf of Gstaad.
